Best Experience in Hopkins. Palmento Grove Cultural & Fishing Lodge was an great experience! Hopkins local community is friendly and proud of their traditions. Everything from the cooking class and cultural museum, to the private drum lesson with a local legend was wonderful! This is an experience I treasure for a looonnngggg time!

Wonderful cultural experience! Our family participated in this experience on Christmas Day and it was an amazing one! We learned about the history of the Garifuna people and their incredibly rich culture. Our group consisted of a teenager and 2 college students, as well as 2 parents. We all had a blast! Helping to make the delicious Garifuna dish of hudut and then learning some Garifuna rhythms on the drums was incredible. We will remember this experience forever!

The best experience on my first trip to Belize!
The entire experience was a learning experience that I will never forget! I learned so much about the Garifuna culture and it was a completely immersive experience, down to getting dressed in the traditional wear. The culinary tour was the best experience of all! I learned how to make the entire meal from scratch, made it and it was delicious! Uwahnie was an amazing guide; well knowledgeable and it felt like home at the lodge. I will certainly be returning with guests!

I had a fantastic time at Uwahnie's. This is a must-visit if you are interested in experiencing the real Belize. When I arrived, Uwahnie picked me up by kayak -- we had a beautiful kayak ride (only about 5 mins) to the island where I was staying. The accommodations are simple but have everything you need. I highly recommend taking advantage of the cooking classes or cultural tours while you are here. I learned so much and had such a good time. I learned how to make fresh coconut milk and other local dishes. You can use the kayaks or the bikes to get around town, or walk along the beach to explore other parts. If I came back to Hopkins, I would definitely stay here!
