Xunantunich Maya Ruins

 

Xunantunich (shoo-nahn-too-neech) is one of Belize's most easily accessible and impressive Maya archaeological sites in western Belize.

The site is a Classic Period ceremonial center dating back to the 7th Century AD and is only accessible via a hand cranked ferry.

In the Yucatec Maya language, Xunantunich means "Stone Woman".

Once you have arrived at Xunantunich, you will have the opportunity to explore the site and climb to the top of ‘El Castillo' one of the tallest manmade structures in Belize which offers panoramic and mesmerizing views of Belize and Guatemala.

The tour departs at 7AM from Palmento Grove Lodge and returns at 5PM.
